About New England Knits:
Hi! My name is Mackenzie.
With a professional background encompassing marketing, entrepreneurship, organic social media, website creation, copywriting, SEO, and more, I’ve been slowly collecting the pieces to build my dream business for years. So, if a person has all the tools to build a business, how do they decide what the business should be? For me, it was easy– I picked something I could never grow tired of.
New England Knits is an idea I’ve had since 2023. It seems there’s a gap in the knitting world: galleries to buy and sell goods for what they’re truly worth. With an 80/20 pay split for artists, people know where to go to find true slow-fashion art while resting assured that their money is directly benefiting artists.
I love the idea of yarn spun from a Vermont sheep’s wool going to a Maine textile artist (who knits unstoppably for fun regardless of profit), who then creates a one-of-a-kind hat with love, which is then purchased by someone for their spouse, who cherishes it for 20 years. New England Knits opens up space for community. Anyone who has spent time in the Northeast and is charmed by its culture has a place here.
New England Knits helps artists generate income by doing what they love, does its part to chip away at fast fashion’s domination, and gives people a way to give handmade gifts even if they don’t have the time to personally make them.
Buying a sweater from this company means that your new clothing item has been imbued with life. Its pattern was conceived, the materials were selected, and every single stitch was intentionally made. It was held in the arms of its maker for its entire creation. Now that’s a sweater that will keep you warm.
As my daughter grows up, I want her to look around and see people whose passion is to uplift. People who value generating more opportunities for each other within the local economy. Small business owners coming together to better the community. People who know the best way to care for our planet is by cultivating and caretaking our local resources. People who know the best way to care for our souls is by creating art and sharing it.
How much can we discover in our own backyard? How much can we give back? How much can we give to each other? What can a business look like if its primary goal is to be a rising tide that lifts all ships? How can we create more community? More authenticity? How can I express my gratitude to you, the reader, for being here? Thank you for being here.
